To put it simply, it’s a triathlon with a pizza party at the end! I wanted to create something fun and outside of the rigid events that we’re used to. This is all about having fun and enjoying some pizza after an epic feat of human endurance. Also, we will have pizza at the aid stations for you to enjoy.
About The Pizza Tri
WTF is a 70.3 Triathlon?
A 70.3 triathlon is the second-longest distance in triathlon consisting of a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and a 13.1-mile run. It will take most people 5-8 hours to complete and that is hustling.
Pizza Party @ Green Lake
You know the Pizza Tri has an afterparty and it’s at the Green Lake Bathhouse from 4-6:30 PM. Please RSVP on Facebook so we know how many people are coming. This is for Seattle Green lake Tri Club members but friends and partners are welcome.
The Swim Course
The swim course will start by the small beach on the north side of the Green Lake Bathhouse where all of the GLOWS start. There will be buoys to mark the course but essentially you swim across Green lake and back. We will also have at least one paddleboard in the water but this is a non-lifeguarded event. There will be ZERO lifeguards so swimming with a swim buoy and within your means is highly recommended.
The Bike Course
Most Important Thing: This is NOT a closed course! Please ride responsibly, the trail will be fairly busy and this is not a race.
The bike course will start at the Green Lake Bathhouse and head counter-clockwise towards the Aqua Theater, make a right onto West Green Lake Way N and then another right onto the bike lane on East Green Lake Way N. Then head south on Stone Way until you meet up with the Burke Gilman at 34th St across from the Brooks Running store. You will be making a left onto the Burke Gilman. Once on the Burke, you head all the way to Marymoor Park. Just after mile 27, you will need to merge left and take the bridge over the river, and then it’s less than a mile to Marymoor where you will find an aid station at lot K which will be marked by a pizza turnaround sign and is the first parking lot on your left. On your way back you will finish your loop around Green Lake on the east side of the lake where there is a bike lane. Once you get to the north side of the lake get back onto the inner loop and finish at the Bathhouse into T2.
Here is the exact bike course on Strava
Bathrooms – Willet Gateway Park at mile 20.6, restroom on the trail at 22.26 mi, and then at the turnaround at Marymoor. All of them also have water available to fill your bottles.
The Run Course
The course will start from T2 which is just outside the Green Lake Bathhouse. The course will be 4 loops (counter-clockwise) around Green Lake and then to the Green Lake Aqua Theater and back. Just make sure you get 13.1…
Is This a Real Event?
The first rule of Pizza Tri is not to talk about the Pizza Tri… This is not an official event, this is not an event at all, the course is not closed, and this is not a race. For legal reasons, this isn’t real at all. This is just a few friends showing up on September 5th to swim, bike, and run.
When & Where?
The Pizza Tri will be held on Sunday, September 5th. The swim start and transitions will be located at the Bathhouse Theater at Green Lake. Start time and other details will be coming shortly.
Is There a Relay?
Yes, you can do a relay with 2 or 3 people.
Are There Aid Stations?
There will be one aid station at Green Lake that will function for the swim and run and then one aid station at Marymoor Park which is the turnaround point. More aid stations might pop up as we get volunteers and I will keep you updated.
Safety Protocols?
This is not a race and we will not be on a closed course. All rules of the road and trails apply. Please please please don’t be that person to blow through stops signs or by pedestrians. This is not a race! There is no one to help you, this is a self-supported swim, bike, and run. This is also not a real event, this is a few people who just happen to be swimming, biking, and running together.
Covid: This is a very complicated subject but we will do our best to follow CDC guidelines.
Who can Participate?
Technically anyone because once again this is not a real event but the goal is to have this be a fun get together for the Seattle Green Lake Triathlon Group. This is the group I train with and they have provided so much support to me over the years that this is my way of giving back to the tri community.
Can I Volunteer?
Yes! It would be so cool if you wanted to volunteer and there is a section to volunteer on the registration form.
WTF is an NFT?
A non-fungible token (NFT) is essentially a unique piece of digital art on the blockchain. I will be minting the NFTs on the Polygon blockchain and will have detailed instructions and a video to show you how to claim your NFT. Please don’t worry if you don’t get it right now, just know you’re getting a cool piece of art to prove you completed the Pizza Tri 70.3.
Is There an After Party?
You know this! There will be a pizza party after the tri and I encourage everyone to come out regardless if you participated in the tri.
WTF Happened to You?
Long story short, 1yr ago I extruded a disc in my spine wakeboarding that left me partially paralyzed in my right leg. I’m planning this triathlon because minutes before my surgery (9/9/20) I posted that my goal was to do a half Ironman within 1yr of my surgery as I laid on a gurney not sure if I was going ever get back to the sports I love, nonetheless if I was ever going to have feeling in my leg again. Thankfully, surgery was able to bring the feeling back but my recovery has been anything but easy. I just recently got back to swimming and biking and only a few weeks ago started doing short jogs. I really don’t know how this is going to go but I’m going for it and I’d love it if you could join me on this adventure.
How do I Register?
(CLOSED) Click the big register button at the top of the page…
Are There Other Distances?
Not this time but if people want we can do another one of these before the end of the season with a shorter distance. For this first one, I thought it would be too complicated to have multiple distances going on. Thanks for understanding and there is a relay if you want to participate.
